Digital Curfew Day 4: Habits are hard to break!

2 Sep

Last night I went over my Digital Curfew by 30 minutes. For those just stopping by, I’m trying to curb my ‘addiction’ and get some of my time back that I spend on the ‘net. I totally caved in the morning, again! But what I have noticed is that it is becoming less of an impulse reaction. Meaning I am no longer leaning over, grabbing my phone, snoozing the alarm and surfing my emails/social networks. Now I know I am at least ‘fighting’ it and making a conscious decision.

Getting better, right?

Interestingly enough, I came across a blog today on TechCrunch which discusses the ‘Email Overload’ people are experiencing and how most people are never really “off” and checking work email at all times. This just after Google released a new feature in Gmail called ‘Inbox Priority’ which allows people to better prioritize their ever-growing emails.

Some interesting stats:

The 9-5 work day has gone the way of the Dodo. 72% of Americans and 68% of Brits say they regularly check their email on vacations, sick days, and at home in bed.

* Yes, IN BED. Conveniently for Xobni, work email in bed is apparently, you know, like a thing, with 1 in 5 Americans checking email as the first thing they do in the morning or the last thing they do at night before falling asleep (Again I can personally vouch for this).

Well, I’m not really checking work email though I have been known to glance! But now I don’t feel so bad or so alone.

Someone mentioned in the comments “You forgot the most important place to check email, in bathroom on iPhone 😀 “

Now, that’s where I draw the line!

Desire to Check: High
Battle: Medium (phone won)
