Build your content first, worry about views later

5 Oct

Last week I had the opportunity of attending The Art of Marketing conference in Montreal which featured some of the top marketers in the industry. They provided a lot of useful information and ideas that I would like to share with you.

In his talk, Jeffrey Gitomer stressed the importance of providing something of value to your customers and that by doing so you would attract more people to you. Without value there is no attraction. He emphasized building content and worrying about views later, which is something that most people don’t do.

How can you provide value?

Share information that will help/educate or even entertain your readers. Provide information that is relevant to YOUR customer. As Gitomer said “Don’t give me what you want to give me, give me what I want to receive”. You need to “provide something of value to your customers that they will appreciate and possibly share”.

But what, you ask?

Clearly you are in business because you know something and are providing a service or product. Are you a fitness trainer? Provide tips, exercise suggestions, motivation: content that will be interesting to your potential customers as well as existing customers. Content that can be shared across the web and slowly with time build your brand.

What about views?

Rome wasn’t build in a day and neither will your brand. You need to keep at it and be consistent. Keep writing, creating valuable content and slowly but surely you will have people taking notice.

So what are you waiting for? :)
